Byron Rogers, age 65, of Akron, Colorado, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Born on February 13, 1961, in Akron, Colorado, Byron attended Akron High School, where he participated in football, basketball, and track, developing the determination, work ethic, and competitive spirit that would serve him throughout his life.
Following high school, Byron attended Colby Community College on a track scholarship for one year, where he met his first wife, Kathy. He returned home after a year and worked alongside his father, Keith, in the oil fields for ten years before beginning a career with the Colorado Department of Transportation. After 25 years of dedicated service, he continued serving the citizens of Washington County through the Road and Bridge Department. He worked as a road maintainer operator for seven years before serving as Road Boss for the final four years of his career. He took great pride in maintaining the roads and infrastructure that connected the communities he loved.
Above all else, Byron loved his family. He was the proud father of Robby Rogers and Tess Jones, whom he shared with Kathy Vagher. He was a devoted father who rarely missed a sporting event, school activity, or opportunity to support his children. His encouragement, guidance, and steady presence left a lasting impact on their lives.
Later in life, Byron married the love of his life, Debra Rogers. Through that marriage, he embraced the opportunity to help raise Debra's two sons, Daniel Campbell and Darrion Gibbs. He loved them deeply and took great pride in helping guide all four children into adulthood. Whether cheering from the stands, sharing advice, or simply spending time together, he found his greatest joy in his family.
Outside of work, Byron enjoyed gardening, fishing, barbecuing, and canning vegetables. He also had a deep love for raising Black Angus cattle. He appreciated simple pleasures, hard work, and sharing the fruits of his labor with family, friends, and neighbors. If he ever graced you with the opportunity to enjoy his famous canned pickles, you knew just how lucky you were.
A man of faith, Byron often described himself as "a man in need of a Savior." He never claimed to be perfect and was quick to acknowledge his shortcomings, but he found hope, forgiveness, and peace through his faith in Jesus Christ. His relationship with Christ sustained him through life's joys and challenges and provided him strength during difficult seasons.
After courageously battling and overcoming cancer, Byron continued to face life's challenges with resilience, determination, and gratitude. His perseverance and positive spirit served as an inspiration to those around him.
Byron is survived by his loving wife, Debra Rogers; his son, Robby Rogers and wife Kelly; his daughter, Tess Jones and husband Brian; his stepsons, Daniel Campbell and Darrion Gibbs; and his cherished grandchildren, Tobyn, Calla, and Rush Rogers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Gwyneth Rogers.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Akron Foursquare Church.
Though he will be deeply missed, Byron's legacy of hard work, devotion to family, steadfast faith, and service to his community will live on through the many lives he touched.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Byron's honor to National Jewish Health in Denver.
