Obituary

Cora May Swopes, 80, of Akron passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2018 in Sterling, Colorado. A memorial service was held on Monday, February 5th, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Akron Cemetery.
Cora was born in Akron to Florian and Martha (Haas) Gebauer on May 30, 1937. She was married to Glenn Dillard Swopes on January 19, 1958. To this union was born David Glen, Lois Annette, Daniel Emory, and James Edward. Cora held several jobs, including farmer, rancher, and school bus driver, but the one she loved the most was being a CNA at the Akron Hospital and Nursing home, where she retired after 31 years. Cora enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, doing puzzles, and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed the time spent with her friends and loved to laugh, and never forgot anyone's birthday. Cora had an intense love for all of us, but for the little ones, that love was even greater for reasons deep in her heart.
Cora is survived by her daughter Lois Ballinger of Greeley, sons David and wife Diana of Pueblo West, and James and wife Kellie of Yuma, grandchildren Miranda Baird, Jacob Swopes, Jasmine Nelson, Jeri Ballinger, Jeffrey Timmens and Sadie Swopes, sister Leona Heater and several great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Glenn, son Daniel, sisters Martha and Margaret, brothers Paul, Florian Jr, and Emory Zimmer.
Her family requests donations in lieu of flowers to be sent to the VFW and or The American Legion. Bowin Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
