Debra Luanne Wise Rodriguez "Debbie" passed away on June 30, 2018, one day after her 70 th birthday.
Debbie was born on June 29, 1948 to Harold and Iola (Lundquist) Wise at the Victory Hospital in Akron. She was the oldest of three children. She lived and attended school in Akron until the 5 th grade.
The family moved to Arvada, Colorado and in 1962, Harold's employment took them to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Debbie graduated from the Commonwealth School, in San Juan, in 1966. Debbie married Louie Rodriguez shortly before he left to serve in Vietnam. While Louie was stationed overseas, Debbie moved back with her parents, who were then living in Alabama.
When her husband returned from Vietnam, they returned to Puerto Rico and lived there until 1974.
Louie's employment took them to Houston, Texas and in 1977 they moved to Miami, Florida.
Debbie and Louie are the parents of four daughters: Luanne, Jessica, Stacie and Carla.
The couple later divorced.
After the divorce, Debbie attended Miami Dade Community College, earning her Associates Degree and, later, attended Florida International University, studying Early Childhood Education.
Debbie was no stranger to hard work. After her divorce, she worked 3 jobs at once – including telephone informational officer, telephone book distributor and craft store clerk. After the girls were in school, Debbie went to work for the Miami Dade School System I the business office.
Out of necessity, she became a great at-home auto mechanic, plumber and carpenter – skills she taught all of her children.
She raised her girls in Miami and, after Hurricane Andrew destroyed their home, she moved to Homestead.
Debbie moved to Akron in 1998 to be closer to her parents and her brothers. In Akron, she worked for Woodie and Joan Bondhus at Skogmos and later for Carl and Barbara Lindahl at Power Technology Solutions. Lila Kessinger offered Debbie a job at Washington County Title Company in August of 1997 and she remained a valued and dedicated employee there until her death.
Debbie had a passion for sewing, cooking and crafting. She loved gardening and, until the last year, always had beautiful vegetable and flower gardens.
Debbie was an enthusiastic volunteer in her community. She devoted countless hours to the Akron VFW Post 86 Auxiliary, Trinity Lutheran Church, as Secretary of the Congregation and active member of the Ladies Aid, the Washington County Museum, Aid Association for Lutherans and Thrivent, Friends of the Library and Eastern Colorado Round-up Volunteer.
She was a Champion Mother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt and Grandma. She never missed an opportunity to sew a costume, cook a delicious meal, attend a scout meeting or sporting event or school activity.
She truly loved living in Akron and tried to support the community in any way. She really enjoyed writing her "Over a Cup of Coffee" column in the Akron News-Reporter.
Debbie is survived by her two brothers, Maury Wise and David Wise, Sister-in-law (and friend) Kenda Fuller. She's also survived by her four daughters: Luanne Brush, Jessica Filla (Barney), both of Akron, Stacie Reinhart and Carla Rodriguez, both of Florida.
Survivors also include her aunts: Betty Wise Guida, Devona Goodwin and Bernita Lundquist and uncle William England.
Her nine grandchildren include: Christina Reinders, Courtney Lasater, Leigha Filla, Parrish Brush, Megan Reinhart, Trent Reinhart, Jackson Filla, Anderson Filla, and Edward Brush. Her three great-grandchildren include: Jack, Amber and Allison Reinders. She's also survived by one nephew: Andrew Wise.
