Dorothy Moffitt Nitzel was born October 19, 1931 in her parents' home in Akron, Colorado.  She was the fourth child for Theodore Irving and Alta Moffitt.  She passed away January 2, 2019 at Platte Valley Medical Center in Brighton, Colorado, at the age of 87 years old.

Dorothy lived in Washington County nearly all of her life.  She was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in Otis, Colorado as a young girl.  As a young bride, she joined the Lutheran Church.  She was a faithful servant all her life, helping her church in any way she could.

She married Vernon Nitzel on December 3, 1950 in the home of her parents north of Otis.  To this union, two children were born, Vicky Nitzel Muchow and LeRoy Nitzel.

Dorothy worked at Odell's Supermarket for 20 years.  The last years of working were managing the bakery in the store.  She loved to bake, so it was a dream job for her.

Dorothy always made their home welcome for Vicky's and LeRoy's friends.  They still talk about her chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon rolls.

After their kids were raised, Dorothy and Vern did some traveling and always had fun stories to tell about their adventures.

She enjoyed the companionship of her brothers and sisters and their spouses.  She hosted many family reunions throughout the years.  She would bake for days preparing, and loved doing it.

Dorothy loved playing all kinds of card games and board games with family and friends.  She always played to win, but kept it in good fun.

She said recently that some people would think she didn't have a very exciting life, but she felt blessed to have had her life filled with the Lord, her family, and a few close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Vernon; brothers Melvin and Delmar Moffitt; son, LeRoy Nitzel; and son-in-law Roger Muchow.

Left to mourn her passing are her daughter Vicky Muchow of Brighton, Colorado; Daughter-in-law Angel Nitzel of Arapahoe, Nebraska; granddaughters Trisha (Keith) Uhl of Arvada, Colorado, Heather Muchow of Brighton, Colorado, and Kendra Nitzel of Arapahoe, Nebraska; great-granddaughter Jade Preisser of Arvada, Colorado; sisters Darlene Strand of Akron, Colorado; Bernita (Harlan) Reiners of McCook, Nebraska; brother Ted (Glenda) Moffitt of Casa Grande, Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church of Akron.  Interment will follow at the Akron Cemetery.  Cards and memorials can be sent to Vicky Muchow at 2547 E Egbert Street, Brighton, CO 80601.  Monies will be used to assist Dorothy's granddaughter.
