Obituary

Florence McKie was born February 9, 1922, in Smith Center, Kansas to Alfred and Dorothy (Holmes) Carver. She passed away on October 13, 2011, in Brush, Colorado.

In 1926 when she was four years old, her family moved to Yuma, Colorado, where they lived for much of her early childhood. Florence married Wayne McKie on April 14, 1941 in Benkelman, Nebraska. To this union five children were born: Marvin Lee, Phyllis Arlene, Priscilla JoAnne, Ted Wayne and Michael Jay. They also provided a home for her young brother Bob for several years. Wayne and Florence celebrated their seventieth wedding anniversary in April of this year.

From 1963 to 1971 she was employed as manager of the Akron school lunch program. Reading was a favorite past time for her.

As her legacy she leaves an example to all who knew her of love for and tender devotion to her family along with her strong moral character and a growing, living faith in Christ. She was known for the twinkle in her eyes, a smile that was always there, her pleasant ways and a godly forgiving spirit that defined her inner beauty.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Dorothy Carver, brothers Forrest, Kenneth, Jerry, and Clarence and a son Ted. She will be missed by her husband Wayne, sons Lee (Janette) and Michael (Bea), daughters Phyllis (Tom) Cheski and JoAnne (Richard) Barry, brothers Jack (Betty) and Bob (Mary Lou), six grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, three great-great grandsons, and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Akron.
