Gale In Loving Memory of Gale Glen Nichols
Glen Nichols, 81, passed away on July 1, 2026, in Yuma, Colorado.
Gale was born on December 15, 1944, at Victory Hospital in Akron, Colorado. He was lovingly adopted and raised by Hubert and Mildred Nichols. He graduated from Akron High School in May 1962 and went on to spend more than 60 years doing what he loved—driving a truck. Trucking wasn't just his career; it was his way of life, and he carried the knowledge and experience of the road with him wherever he went.
Before life on the highway, Gale enjoyed ranching, farming, and riding horses. Those who knew him knew exactly what to expect—he was straightforward, honest, and never afraid to tell you the truth, even when it wasn't what you wanted to hear. Beneath his tough exterior was a generous man who quietly helped countless people. Whether it was sharing his trucking wisdom, lending financial support when someone needed it, or helping a young person get their first car, Gale was always willing to lend a hand.
One favorite family story perfectly captures Gale's spirit. He bought his stepchildren an old Ford Falcon with a manual transmission, teaching them how to drive a "three-on-the-tree." One day, two of them decided to drive it from the family farm south of Akron all the way to Platner—until the car broke down. They had to call Gale for help. He wasn't exactly thrilled, especially since the car didn't have a license or registration, but like always, he came to the rescue.
Gale is survived by his stepdaughter, Christina Benish and her husband, Erick Benish; his grandchildren, Drake (Isabell) Miller, Shay (Evan) Vogt, Taylor Benish, and Macey Benish; and his two great-grandchildren, Tayden Vogt and Waylon Vogt.
In keeping with Gale's wishes, he has been cremated, and no funeral service will be held. True to his practical nature, Gale said he didn't want his stepdaughter, Christina, to have to deal with the hassle. Those who knew him know that sounds exactly like something he would say.
Gale will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his unwavering honesty, his willingness to help others, and the countless stories made along the road and around the farm. Though he is gone, the lessons he taught, the laughs he gave, and the lives he touched will remain with those who loved him.
