Obituary

Imogene (Jeanie) was born December 16, 1926 in Cowgill, Missouri to Elbert Lee and Mary (Misenhelter) Stone and was the youngest of their nine children. When she was five years old her parents and family moved from Missouri to Vernon, Colorado. They lived on a wheat farm south of Vernon and raised all their own food during the Depression. She attended eleven years at the Vernon school until her parents moved to Wray, Colorado, where she finished her senior year at Wray High School in 1944 and was voted Prom queen. After graduation she worked four years at the National Bank of Wray and enjoyed being a young professional woman. She married Robert Goodman on June 19, 1948 and they moved to a farm north of Yuma, Colorado. They had many stories to tell of the blizzard of 1949 living with no telephone and no passable roads. Five years later they moved to a farm southwest of Wray, Colorado. By this time they had three children, Jere, Jonelle, and Deanna. They moved to Loveland, Colorado in 1956 for a short time. Jeanie worked at the First National Bank of Loveland until her husband became the Manager of the Washington County ASCS office in Akron, Colorado, and they moved there in 1957. Their children attended the Akron schools and she was a room mother for several years, assisted with Blue Birds, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and helped with 4-H. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Jeanie was employed at the Central Great Plains Research Station for the Colorado State University department and part time for the United States Department of Agriculture. She worked there over thirty years and was a dedicated employee in which she typed several manuscripts for both departments. That was before word processors and computers replaced typewriters. She was praised for the accuracy and speed in which she typed the research notes and tables for the manuscripts. She retired in September 1990.
Jeanie always kept busy with her hobbies of crocheting and sewing, which were taught to her by her mother and older sisters. She made all eleven grandchildren an afghan and a quilt, and then started baby quilts for the great grandchildren. She passed along many of these skills to her daughters, granddaughters, and even great granddaughters. She loved gardening and growing flowers, especially her peonies. Most of all, she loved her family and always welcomed them to her home. Cooking and baking was a way of life and she always had a hot meal for whoever might drop in. If you were lucky, there was a piece of her special rhubarb or sour cream raisin pie. All the grandchildren coming to visit remember playing with the toys in the closet and especially sitting on the living room floor playing the Memory game with Grandma. In the last several years she enjoyed spending an afternoon each week playing cards with her friends.
She and Bob enjoyed all the activities and sporting events of their children and grandchildren, traveling all over the state to support them. Many family outings consisted of fishing, searching for arrowheads, and hunting. She was an active participant in all of them. Camping and fishing trips became a family tradition for all of their children and families. Jeanie and Bob did travel to many states for business and pleasure, but her she loved being at home most of all.
She was preceded in death by her five brothers, Elbert, Louis, Alvin, Eugene, and Raymond, and her three sisters Mina Shively, Nona Wingfield, and Donna Faye Devlin, a grandson, James Randall, and son-in-law Chuck Annand. She leaves to mourn her husband, Bob, children Jere (Cris), Jonelle (Darrel), and Deanna Annand. Also her grandchildren Jennifer Crownover, Michelle Console, Jared Goodman, Kevan Goodman, Danielle Cunningham, Sara Parker, Shay Parker, Shelley Perkins, Cia Stull, Kelly Annand, and Todd Annand. In addition, she and Bob have twenty-three great grandchildren ranging in ages of three weeks to sixteen years old. She was a wonderful and gracious lady who will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
A memorial service was held Monday, August 24, 2015 at the United Methodist Church of Akron. Interment was at the Akron Cemetery. Memorials donations may be made to the David Walsh Cancer Center or to Hospice of the Plains.
