Obituary

Dorothy "Irene" Warren Schinkel, 101 of Akron passed away Nov. 28, 2018 at Hillcrest Caring Center in Wray, CO.  Irene was born Sept. 3, 1917 to Jemina Mina Reid and James Heath in Cabri, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Irene married Floyd "Bud" Schinkel February 20, 1936, who lovingly gave her the nickname Skirt J and were married just short of 60 years. Some of the things that they would do together were barn dances, mountain vacations after harvest, and road trips.  The years with her best friends Dorothy and Lois (the stories they had) and she loved to be busy - never saw a calendar without anything written down to do.  She was a charter member of HD Antelope Spring club since 1946.  She worked year around on projects for fair along with being a judge for county and state fairs.  As a result of all the years of participation, FCE will be giving her the Colorado Honoree award.  She was able to travel to Perth Australia for the National HD convention and where she met her longtime pen pal Pearl who also traveled to USA to visit.  She loved to bowl, play bridge, artwork and crafts of all kinds, and active in the Presbyterian Church.  Irene was well involved in her community - the Extension Club played an important roll in her life as it provided her with a continuous education as she only completed the 9 th grade, after being introduced to 4H she continued to be a part of that for at least 70 year, she severed several years as food chairwoman for health counsel.  Irene was unique in that she took her love for those clubs and worked so hard to make them the best that they could offer for others.

Irene is survived by daughter Delores (George), son Barry, grandchildren Andrew (Erica), Joel (Michelle) and Marla, great-grandchildren (where she was affectionately referred to as GG) Mario, Keylan, Colby, Mary & Malia.  Nephew Roger (Mary)Washburn and niece Mary Ann Shook.
