Obituary

John Paul Bruns, son of Paul and Eva (Noble) Bruns, came into this world at St. Joseph's Hospital in Denver on September 17, 1973.  He passed away at the Washington County Nursing Home on June 25, 2024.  John had many health issues during his lifetime.  He was diagnosed with a seizure disorder at seven months old which led to many medications and hospital visits.

John was always a very happy person who enjoyed being with people.  He would tease people and expected to be teased back.  He was always ready with a smile if a camera appeared.

John attended school in Akron, Fleming, Yuma, and Sterling where he became part of the Harts Program.  He received his high school diploma from the Sterling High School.  When in Sterling, he enjoyed being part of the Special Olympics.  He participated in ball throw, races, bowling, and anything involving basketball.

John's greatest love was riding horses and seeing cows.  Early on, he was part of the Blue Skys program.  When in Akron with mom, she took him riding at the Burns Arena in the Freedom to Cowboy Up program.  He always enjoyed riding pastures to see the cows at his Uncle Lanny's place.  The bumpier, the better!

John entered the services of Eastern Colorado Services around 1997.  He lived in Fort Morgan and his last years were in Sterling.  Here, he became a member of a larger family.  He enjoyed the various activities, particularly 4th of July and Valentines dances, and the Halloween and Christmas parties.  He enjoyed his rides to see horses and cows after a hard day at work at the Day Program at Eastern.  He enjoyed getting a screwdriver and seeing how many things he could take apart.  All people learned that you didn't leave keys in your car, because he became an excellent driver at a young age.  He enjoyed driving Mom's John Deere mower around his Akron home.  While visiting Uncle Lanny's place, John was able to start a lawn mower that had been sitting around for at least six years.  John had many hidden talents.

John was preceded in death by his great-grandparents William and Minnie Noble, his father Paul Bruns, grandparents John and Wilhemina Bruns and Merrill and Geneva Noble, aunts and uncles Hilda and Jay Benedict, Harley and Wilma Smith, Rudy Bruns, and Walter Pratt.  Survivors are mother Eva Bruns, Aunt Henrietta Pratt, Uncle and Aunt Lanny and Barbara Noble, and numerous cousins, and family members at Eastern Colorado Services.

Services will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m.  Burial will follow at the Yuma Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Eastern Colorado Services to help with our developmentally disabled.
