Obituary

Kathleen Mae Reynolds, 73, of Akron, Colorado died unexpectedly at the Sterling Regional Medical Center on the 8 th of April, 2019.  Kathy was born June 11, 1945 in Pueblo, Colorado to Audrey and Kenneth Reynolds.  With a military father, Kathy spent her early childhood on the east coast…During this time she was baptized at St Patrick's Cathedral in New York City.  At age 4 Kathy then returned to Pueblo to finish her childhood.

She was united in marriage to Donald James Stephenson on February 17, 1962.  To this union three children were born, Donald Keith, Danna Kay and Darla Kay.  In 1975 Jim and Kathy loaded up the kids and moved to Akron to raise their family.   Kathy worked as a dental office manager and assistant for 20 plus years in the local dental office of Akron and Yuma.  She spent many years volunteering as a 4H leader and the Washing County Fair Secretary.

To all that knew Kathy her family was her pride and joy.  She spent many years traveling from town to town to watch sporting events, 4H events and family celebrations for both her children and grandchildren.  Christmas was her absolute favorite time of the year.  There wasn't an inch of space in her home that wasn't decorated with sparkle and flashing lights.  If you would ask any of her grandchildren what their most memorable thing about granny was they would tell you her baking cinnamon rolls, canning 100s of jars of salsa, beans, tomatoes, jams and jellies and dill pickles.  Providing for her family was absolutely her passion of life.  Kathy loved playing (and maybe cheating a little) all kinds of card games with friends and family…to say she played to win was an understatement.  She truly was the Queen of Cards.

In 1999 Kathy returned to Pueblo to assist in the care of her elderly parents.  On September 3, 2000 Kathy married Frank Trujillo. With this marriage Kathy gained 3 stepdaughters  Rosie, Carla and Eloysa.  Once her parents passed Kathy moved back home to Akron to be closer to her kids and grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth Reynolds, Audrey and Gerald Minogue, an older Sister Sonja Lee Smith and a younger brother Jerry Wayne Minogue.

Left to mourn her passing are her son Don (Julie) Stephenson of Sterling, Daughters Danna (Tom) Krause of Fort Collins, Darla (Gary Alford) Stephenson of Parker, Femke Beekers of Thailand, Stepdaughters Rosie (Mike) Trujillo of Pueblo, Carla (Steve) Finn of Parker and Eloysa Trujillo of Pueblo,   14 grandchildren and spouses, 5 great grandchildren – Brother Arthur Reynolds, Sister Cheryl (Jack) Teel, Sister Deborah (Gene) Vaught and numerous nieces, nephews and friends

A Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 27 th at 1 pm at the Akron Foursquare Church.  Inurnment will follow at the Akron Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to the American Diabetes Association or any Washington County 4H Club.
