Kenneth Eugene Morey Hawkinson was born March 23, 1942, in Tacoma, Washington to Margaret Ann Morey. In 1947, Margaret and Kenny moved to Colorado, where Margaret met her fiancé Francis "Dutch" Hawkinson. On November 20, 1951, Dutch adopted Kenny as his son and forever made him a Hawkinson. Kenny was the only brother to three sisters, Sharon Kay, Emma Marlene and Carol Renae. As sisters, we thought our brother Kenny gave the best hugs ever and we sure do miss them!! Kenny grew up in Akron, Colorado. Around the sixth grade, Kenny became friends with Richard Parker. Richard asked Kenny if he wanted to attend the Baptist Church with him. Kenny decided to go and later asked his Mom and Dad if they wanted to go. And so, it began. Kenny and the Hawkinson Family started going to church and for that, we are very thankful, Richard. Through the years, Kenny played many sports, as he was very athletic. Kenny surprised his parents one day when he came home from school with a junior high football uniform. However, he was only in the sixth grade!! He promptly put his sister Marlene in the football uniform and threw her up in the air and let her fall to see if she would bounce! (Boy, did he get in trouble for that.) But Carol even remembers jumping off of the refrigerator into Kenny's strong arms and never being afraid. Then, came high school sports. Kenny played football for the Akron Rams and was an All-Conference running back. He wrestled, placing second in districts. He was the first Akron Ram to wrestle for state competition. And then, there was track, where he showed his speed, competing in many running events. Probably the highlight of his track career was when his 440-relay team won state and held that record for MANY years. His senior year, Kenny received a scholarship offer to play football from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado. Kenny graduated from Akron Class of 1961. Kenny joined the Air Force in Jan of 1962. He took basic training at 70th Bombardment Wing at Clinton-Sherman Air Force Base, Oklahoma. While in the Air Force, he was stationed in Opan Air Base in North Korea as a reconnaissance photographer where flew many spy missions. Kenny was honorably discharged in January of 1968. He returned home shortly afterwards to Akron to his family. On November 2, 1968, Kenneth Eugene Hawkinson married Barbara (Bobbi) Gale Lambertson. To their union, three sons were born, Scott William, Brad Miller and Neil Joseph. Kenny and his family lived in Bonny Lake, Washington for eight years, while Kenny worked for Person and Person Homes. Then, Kenny and Bobbi decided to move back to Akron and eventually settle on a farm north of town. This is when Kenny's fun began raising the boys, pigs and horses. There were many, many adventures during that chapter of his life, raising three boys on a farm. One of their favorite things to do was go up to the second story bedroom and jump in the laundry chute and slide all the way down to the basement, flying out, hoping that mom hadn't done the laundry yet, so there would be something soft to land on!! And they also gave the kittens their turn at sliding down the laundry chute and sometimes the boys rode with them!! What adventures they had! Kenny just really enjoyed that chapter of his life. Fair was also a special time for Kenny, Bobbi and the boys. They showed pigs and horses and really took in the atmosphere of this end-of-summer event with their family and friends. But he truly enjoyed the chapter of his life when the boys were old enough to compete and play sports. He was so very proud of them!! Kenny had several jobs during his lifetime: Working in Denver, pouring concrete with his friend, Tiger Mike Oil Drilling Company, Washington County Assessor's Office and Northeastern Colorado Tree Service. But he loved his family, friends and his many dogs and his faith in God was his strength. You could always count on Kenny to help you with his big heart and his strength. He was like a "Gentle Giant"! When Kenny's health started to decline, his dogs became his best buddies and constant companions. Then, in 2019, Kenny became a resident of Akron Greenhouse, due to a stroke. He had further health issues and was subsequently transferred to Sunset Manor's Alzheimer's Unit in Brush, Colorado in August 2021. Kenny went home to be at peace and rest with Jesus after a battle with cancer and Alzheimer's on September 19, 2021. Kenny was proceeded in death by his parents, Francis "Dutch" Hawkinson and Margaret "Peggy" Hawkinson, by his son Neil Hawkinson, sister Sharon Brunson and nephew Cullen Glosson. Kenny will be greatly missed by his sons, Scott William Hawkinson and Terraka of Milwaukie, Oregon, Brad Miller Hawkinson of LaSalle, Colorado, sisters Marlene Hawkinson Glosson (John) of Akron, Colorado, Carol Hawkinson Fox (Steve) of Greeley, Colorado, special friend Bobbi Hawkinson, granddaughter Halle Mae Hawkinson of Fort Collins, Colorado and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. One special note, the boys want you to know their Dad was a good-hearted man who loved us!! Memorial donations to Akron VFW.
