Obituary

Kenneth Lewis Kuntz passed away on October 24, 2026, at 8:15 a.m., at the age of 88. Born in the family home on the Kuntz homestead north of Otis, Colorado, Ken lived a life devoted to his Catholic faith, his family, farming, and his community.

Ken was a generational farmer who loved the land and took great pride in his work. His knowledge and innovative chemical farming techniques earned him numerous awards and the respect of fellow farmers throughout the community, particularly for his outstanding wheat production. He loved harvest time and closely watched weather patterns, always mindful of how rain, hail, and changing conditions affected his crops. Early in his career, he also worked for the railroad to support his growing family and served as an Air Force Reservist.

His Catholic faith was the foundation of his life. Ken was active in his church community, including the Knights of Columbus and the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery committee. Alongside his beloved wife of 64 years, Bonnie, he participated in Marriage Encounter and helped prepare engaged couples for marriage. His faith guided the way he lived, the decisions he made, and the example he set for others.

Ken's greatest joy was his family. He and Bonnie Lou Kuntz raised five children: Greg Kuntz, Lisa Jones, Sharon Kuntz Kaiser, Michelle Stanford, and Kevin Kuntz. He treasured time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether playing basketball, following sports, or challenging his children to a foot race-which he often won-Ken brought humor, energy, and a playful competitive spirit to family life.

He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, visiting with friends at the local coffee shop, and participating in church and community activities. Ken was known for his gentle nature, kind heart, and wonderful sense of humor. Above all, he believed in integrity, doing the right thing, and living what you preach. He was a respected role model whose actions spoke louder than words.

Ken is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his children, Greg and wife Kelli Kuntz, Lisa and husband Rob Jones, Sharon and husband Kenny Kaiser, Michelle and husband Philip Stanford, and Kevin and wife Susie Kuntz; and his grandchildren:

  • Greg's children: Kamron Kuntz, Preston Kuntz, and Lorrin Tschirhart.

  • Sharon's child: Nathan Knirlberger.

  • Michelle's children: Michael Stanford, Kaitlin Wurtenberger, and Austin Stanford.

  • Kevin's children: Nicholas Kuntz and Bradlee Kuntz.

His great-grandchildren are Kinsley Kuntz and Karley Kuntz, children of Kamron; Elliott Kuntz, child of Preston; Josephine Tschirhart and James Tschirhart, children of Lorrin; and Kolbe Stanford, child of Michael.

He is also survived by his brothers, Leonard Kuntz and Gilbert Kuntz, along with extended family, friends, fellow parishioners, and members of the farming community.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Margaret Kuntz; his siblings, Ed Kuntz, Margaret Eisenman, and Trudy Hause; his first born child Lilly Kuntz; and his great-grandchild, Jude Tschirhart.

Ken leaves behind a legacy of faith, hard work, family devotion, and integrity. Like the fields he so carefully tended, the seeds he planted in the hearts of those around him will continue to grow for generations. His family finds comfort in their Catholic faith and the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

"Well done, good and faithful servant." - Matthew 25:21

A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Akron, Colorado.
