Doris LaRee Miller was born November 16, 1916 on a farm near Geneva, Nebraska. She was the third child of the family born to James William Ogg and Winifred Pearl (Allen) Ogg.
At age four, she moved with her parents and two brothers Kenneth Wayne and Francis Kermit to a farm northeast of Akron. Even as the youngest child, she learned the value of a strong work ethic on the family farm at an early age. LaRee continued to be a very determined, strong worker throughout her life.
Her early religion training began with a small group in Platner, CO. She continued her faith at the First Presbyterian Church in Akron where she was baptized and served as a member of the United Presbyterian Women. There she helped with funeral dinners, wedding receptions, anniversary receptions, etc for the church, along with Bible Study.
She attended and completed elementary school at Star School, a mile from her home. She always told about being taken to school by horse and buggy. She attended and graduated high school at Platner High School in Platner, CO, where her favorites were art and basketball. She was a member of the Class A championship team her senior year.
After graduating high school in 1934, she worked for Youngburg Drugstore and Vance Hatchery for two years.
On October 21, 1937 she was united in marriage to a neighbor of her family, Wilmer John Miller in Akron. The following day the newlyweds drove to Nebraska and began their new life on the Miller Family homestead southeast of Pawnee City, NE, where their first daughter, Donna Lee, was born in 1940.
The family returned to Akron in 1942 and lived on a farm south of Otis. Their son, William Henry arrived in 1943. Later that year, the family made a return trip to Nebraksa and remained until 1945.
December of 1945 found the family on a trip back to a Colorado farm northeast of Akron, where they stayed until the present.
In 1949, a second daughter, Jacqueline Rae was stillborn.
LaRee continued working alongside her husband on the family farm until his passing. She helped with all of the farm work including driving her own tractor and the wheat hauling trucks at harvest. She helped her son manage the farm until her passing.
LaRee especially enjoyed raising the family garden and canning and preserving the family's food. Next in line of enjoyment was cooking, baking, and decorating cakes and cookies for all of the family's special occasions over all the years. LaRee won numerous ribbons with her food entries at the Washington County Fair in Akron.
Her spare time was spent sewing, embroidering, collecting stamps, and special coins. She also enjoyed house plants, outdoor flower gardens, and keeping the lawn neat. LaRee always enjoyed close family gatherings, and celebrated her 63rd wedding anniversary in October of 2000.
In her middle years, she always helped organize and serve as an officer for the yearly class reunion for Platner High School, along with the Akron Rebecca Lodge where she held various offices.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and godmother, always providing for and supporting her family to her fullest abilities. She gave all of herself unselfishly and always praised the value of work and volunteering. She did her best to abide by the Golden Rule.
