Obituary

Larry Wagner 82, of Akron, passed away at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center on January 15 2022.

Larry was born April 5, 1939 in Akron, Colorado to Lawrence Wager and Inez Traxlar Wagner. He was the youngest of two boys

Larry was born and raised in Washington County, Colorado. He first lived in a basement house South of Akron. As a boy he lived north of Akron in a sod house.  He liked to tell stories of playing cowboys with his brother Paul around the Old Paint Mines and Fremont Butte. He especially enjoyed spending time with extended family, in particular his many cousins.  After moving to a large house north of Akron he began riding his horse three miles to Rock Springs School. He then went to school into his Junior year at Akron High School, but quit to pursue a job in Texas putting up grain bins. In later years he enjoyed returning to the Alumni Banquet and reunions visiting with long time friends.

In 1959, Larry married Alpha Fay Van Winkle. They had two sons: Harold and James Wagner. During the late 60's he worked for his father and brother, Laurance and Paul Wanger at the family trucking business, Akron Trucking Line. After the business dissolved, he went to work in Pine Bluff, at the Muddy Creek Ranch. Larry had many jobs in agriculture and ranching throughout his life. He had a penchant for working with horses and cattle. He worked on farms during the growing season and feedlots in the winter. He especially enjoyed hunting with his boys.

In 1991, Larry married Jeanne Beaver. With Jeanne came her three grown boys and three granddaughters, with a grandson to be added a few months later. Larry truly loved to have fun and over his life he enjoyed many activities and endeavors. Larry already participated in hunting, team penning, roping and archery.  He soon added motorcycling from Texas to British Columbia with friends and family. After his retirement he took up golfing.  You could usually find Larry and Jeanne at the Akron Golf Course every single day, they even finished up one game in a snowstorm. They soon took up travel, with golfclubs and bows in tow. They traveled throughout the country in their camper playing golf and participating in bow shoots. Larry taught each of the grandchildren (Stephanie Cooper, Cherise Robart, Chelsea Carr, Colleen Carr and Dylan Carr) archery, and they participated in bow shoots, perfecting their skills under Larry's guidance.  Larry enjoyed metal work and began to expand his talents into producing spurs and bits. He produced high quality products that were quite popular with friends and local cowboys.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, his father-in-law Lee Welch, his brother Paul, sister-in-law Lilian and stepson Wesley Carr.

He is survived by his wife Jeanne Wagner, his two sons, two stepsons and their wives, seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two nieces, and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law.
