Obituary

Lori Wells, 64, of Akron, Colorado, passed away peacefully at her home on June 4, 2025, following a lengthy illness.

Lori Ann (Hubbard) Wells was born on February 5, 1961, in Brush, Colorado, the second of four children to William David Hubbard and Martha Louise (Bickert) Hubbard. In 1969, the family moved to Akron, where Lori attended school and formed many treasured, lifelong friendships that remained with her throughout her life.

On April 22, 1978, Lori married Kirk Wells, and looked forward to fulfilling her dream of starting a family. That dream came true on February 27, 1979, with the birth of a baby girl, Jenica Leigh. Sadly, God called Jenica home on April 14 of that same year. Lori's heartache began to heal when she welcomed another daughter, Tessa Lea, on March 13, 1980. Their family grew again on August 10, 1984, with the birth of a son, Adam Lee.

In 1988, the family relocated to Bird City, Kansas, where Lori made dear, lasting friendships that continued to lift and support her for the rest of her days. During this time, she accomplished a personal milestone by earning her GED and enrolling in cosmetology school at Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland. Her natural warmth and talent shone through, and it came as no surprise when she was named Student of the Year at her graduation.

Lori went on to open her own hair salon, but her greatest joy came from being a devoted mother. She never missed a chance to volunteer for school events, plan unforgettable birthday and holiday parties, and fill her home with laughter. Life's journey eventually brought the family back to Akron in 1995, where Lori cherished time with her extended family and watched her children grow into adulthood.

Becoming a grandmother was one of Lori's greatest joys. She adored every moment spent with her grandchildren, generously giving snuggles and teaching them the art of kitchen dancing. Though her later years were marked by health challenges and pain that dimmed her sparkle, Lori's warmth, love, and infectious, beautiful laugh never faded.

She will be forever remembered for the boundless love she shared and the light she brought to those around her. While her absence leaves an ache in the hearts of many, there is peace in knowing she is reunited with loved ones in Heaven.

Lori was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Martha Hubbard; her brother, Jimmy Hubbard; and her beloved daughter, Jenica Wells.

She leaves behind her daughter, Tessa Bacon and husband Nick of Akron; son, Adam Wells and wife Kindra of Brush; brothers Dave Hubbard of Akron and Jerry Hubbard and wife Natalie of Greeley; aunt Eleanor Tormohlen of Michigan; nine grandchildren: Venessa, Nickolas, Abreanna, Antonio, Alexander, RyLee, Jordan, Jaiden, and Jace; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Akron.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Breakthrough T1D (formerly Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), in honor of Lori's son and grandson.
