Mae Smith, 90 of Akron, passed away on January 5, 2020 at the East Morgan County Hospital.  Mae Helderman Murphy Smith was born December 12, 1929 to Louis and Effie (Leo) Helderman in Vona, Colorado.

In 1949, she married Loyd Murphy.  To this union, two children were born:  Jim in 1950 and Meredith in 1951.

Mae is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bob Helderman and wife Maxine, sister Edith and husband Willard Lotzenheiser; brother-in-law Wayne Greenwood, and her son Jim Murphy.

She is survived by her daughter Meredith (Dave) Bezdek; grandchildren Clint (Jenelle) Bezdek, Candee (Abe) Kemp, and Clayton Slocum; 5 great-granddaughters Breanna Bezdek, Paige Bezdek, Madison Kemp, Taylor Kemp, and Chelsea Slocum; sisters Vera Greenwood and Agnes (Lee) Lavington.

A funeral service was held Friday, January 10, 2020 at the First Baptist Church of Akron.  Interment was held Monday, January 13, 2020 at the Vona Cemetery in Vona, Colorado.
