Obituary

Marilyn Severin, 78 of Akron, passed away on February 17, 2016 at the Washington County Nursing Home. Marilyn Rose (Hokanson) Severin was born June 20, 1937 in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Vince and Ruth (Samuels) Hokanson. She attended school in Cartersville, Illinois.
She came to Akron, CO in 1972. She worked at several jobs around town until her and Harold Severin were married on December 28, 1974. Her husband managed a hog farm and it wasn't long until she was down there helping out. Her main thing was taking care of the baby pigs. With her love of animals, she was a natural at it. She loved all animals, but especially loved her old mare, Babe, that she had for over 25 years. She was thrilled to ride her in the County parade one year. She was also proud of the small banner she won at the fair for Champion Garden Showman.
After the hog farm closed, she had to have some animals to take care of…mostly unwanted dogs. Then she started selling puppies to pay expenses. She never had too many dogs that she couldn't spend time petting and talking to each one every day. She wouldn't sell a puppy to just anyone. She was also proud to be the secretary of the Colorado Dog Breeders Association for many years, for which she received a plaque of recognition.
Preceding her in death are her parents, son Jeff Brown, and her daughter Deb English. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband Harold, son-in-law Larry English, brother Bruce Hokanson, sister Margaret Hokanson, and step-sister Terry Neyrinck.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church of Akron. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of the Plains, or to the Dumb Friends League.
