Marjorie Isabelle Johnson Dutton went home to the Lord on August 8, 2012.
Marjorie was born in Loveland, CO on June 28, 1929 to Richard and Bessie Johnson. She moved to a ranch up in Golden Gate Canyon with her family at a young age. Later at the age of 17, Marjorie went to work for the Coors Porcelain factory. She loved to dance and would often go to the Denver Dance Academy where she met the love of her life, Odie I. Dutton, who worked at the Coors brewery. They were later married on March 14, 1949 in Raton, NM. To this union they were blessed with 8 children, 6 boys and 2 girls. After living for 12 years in the Denver area, the family moved to Washington County in 1961 to raise their family. In 1962, they purchased their current home where they farmed and started a dairy.
Marjorie had so many amazing qualities. Her love, wisdom, and compassion for family and friends were truly special. She started sewing clothes for her husband and children, which expanded out to include family and neighbors, and ultimately a job that provided clothing for the handicapped and disabled. She enjoyed making Afghans and quilts for her family. When it came to celebrations, it was always a large gathering. This included everything homemade. She loved making bread, rolls, noodles, cakes, and cookies. Everyone had their own favorite meal they will always remember. During the holidays, she never made less than 25-30 pies. At Christmas time, it was always a family tradition to make fudge. This included standing in cold weather, taking turns stirring until it was ready. No one was excluded. All of her daughters-in-law have heard the phrase "It doesn't taste like Mom's" many times. Whenever the opportunity arose, she was ready for a hot game of cards, Yahtzee, or Scrabble. Every summer, Marjorie planted a huge garden which was enjoyed by all. Her garden is where Marjorie felt closest to God.
If you had a problem, no matter how big or small, she always had time to listen. Whether the problem was solved or not, she had a way of making you feel better.
In recent years, Odie and Marjorie enjoyed watching and dancing to the Grand Ole Opry. Marjorie's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were most precious to her. Her face would light up when they came to visit.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her father Richard G. Johnson; mother Bessie B. Johnson; son Steven Douglas Dutton; brothers Ernie, Marion, and Richard; and sisters Edna and Dorothy.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Odie; her children Gary and Bev Dutton of Cope, Connie Cook and Brian Doughty of Seibert, Linda Norling, Galen and Tina Dutton, Davon Dutton, Kevin and Cathy Dutton, and Kent Dutton all of Anton; Kathy and George Barnes of Florence; 24 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; brother Lloyd Hagar of LaPorte; sister Helen (Sis) Stuckey of Arvada; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service was held Monday, August 13, 2012 at the Cope Community Church in Cope, CO. Interment followed at the Cope Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Washington County Ambulance Service. Bowin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
