Myrna Louise Catharine Sharpe Schrock was born in Holly, CO, on August 30, 1927, to William and Louise (Orth) Sharpe. Two sisters, Ethel and Lucielle, welcomed her home. She was baptized at the Lutheran Church as an infant.
In June 1929, she lost her mother after the birth of her brother, Ralph. After her mother's death, she and her siblings lived with her beloved grandmother Louise Orth, a widow and mother of nine children. Four of her younger children helped with raising Myrna. They lived on a farm/ranch south of Anton/Lindon, CO in a sod house.
She attended the Pleasant Hill School thru grade school. While attending Brighton High School, where she graduated, she lived with her father, stepmother Frieda, and half-sister Alice. After graduating, she moved to Denver and attended the University of Denver Art School while working at Montgomery Ward. After a short time, she returned to the farm to help with her grandmother.
It was during this time, she met her husband, Ervin Schrock. They were married November 5, 1952 and made their home in the Thurman, CO area raising wheat and cattle. Myrna soon joined the Mennonite Church and enjoyed the church community. She served with teaching, music, bible studies, and social activities.
In June 1954, she gave birth to her only child, Norman. Myrna was a very loving and protective mother dedicated to her little boy.
In the early seventies, Myrna worked at the Arickaree School for 3 years as a teacher's aide. She loved gardening, long walks, picking up rocks, sewing, making scrapbooks, but most of all, her bible studies, music and singing hymns. Everyone loved her strawberry jam and fresh bread. She loved to travel and took many trips to all areas of the US, even Alaska. In her late 60's, she learned to swim to fulfill her dream of swimming in the Pacific Ocean!
In 1975-1981, she was very happy to welcome her grandchildren, Bradley, Angela, and Collin into her life. She loved playing on the floor with them and was their protector if they were in trouble with their parents!
In May 2001, due to Ervin's health issues, they moved to Akron, CO. Six weeks later, she lost her husband. After his sudden death, she had to adjust to a new life alone, a new home, and a new town. She relied upon her strong faith in Jesus Christ. "Through my years, I've learned the most important thing in life is knowing and trusting in my Savior, my Lord Jesus Christ." Myrna joined the Methodist Church, the quilters clubs, choir, exercise groups, and a bible study. She enjoyed her new friends and they rallied around her and made this transition much easier.
In November 2019, almost two years after her son's death, she entered the Washington County Nursing Home. During almost three years, she made new friends and was truly happy. She was more than ready to meet her Lord and go the Heaven. Talking about Jesus and Heaven gave her much joy and on Sunday morning, October 23, 2022, after suffering a stroke the night before, the joy of Jesus and Heaven became a reality!
She is survived by her grandchildren, Brad (Deanna) Schrock, Angela (BJ) Mayhan, Collin Schrock, eight great-grandchildren, Tate, Cora, Raeya, Kane, and Jaida Schrock and Brett, Lindsey, and Levi Mayhan, daughter-in-law Cathay Schrock, brother in-law Ray Campbell, sister in-laws Cheryl Oswald and Shirley (Bob) Anderson, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her funeral service will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Akron. Interment will follow at the Thurman Cemetery south of Anton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the United Methodist Church of Akron or to the Washington County Nursing Home.
