Obituary

Patricia Lou Turvey ("Pat" or "Patty" to her friends) was born on March 13, 1943 in Haxtun, Colorado and passed away in Littleton, Colorado on December 9, 2019 at the age of 76.   Her parents were Seibert and Iris Olson of Haxtun.  Pat graduated from Haxtun High School in 1961 and on January 22, 1966, she married James S. Turvey and lived in Johnstown, Colorado where he was employed with Great Western Sugar Company.  In the fall of 1966, Jim and Pat moved to Chicago, Illinois where Jim continued to work for Great Western Sugar Company as an electrician.  While they were in Chicago, they were foster parents to numerous children.  Due to Jim's failing health, they moved back to Colorado in 1971 and settled in Ovid.  In April of 1972, Michael J. Turvey was born in Julesburg and in 1974 the family moved to Eckley, Colorado.  Jim's daughter, Roxanne from a prior marriage joined the family in Eckley, while his other two daughters Dawn and Traci lived in the Denver area.  James Turvey passed away in September of 1989 when Mike was a senior in high school.  Shortly after Jim's passing, Pat and Mike moved to Otis where he graduated from high school.  In addition to being a foster mom, Pat worked for a time in real estate with her husband Jim and Harry "Bud" Johnson, worked at Adaptogs (adaptive apparel), the grocery store in Otis, and worked at the Yuma Dairy Queen until a car accident forced her to quit working.  Pat also enjoyed volunteering and filling in at the Otis Town Hall.  Pat was fiercely protective of her family as they were the center of her world.  She had an enormous sense of pride in Mike and his family, step-daughters Roxanne, Dawn, and Traci, and their families.  In June of 2019, Pat had what appeared to be the flu, and was admitted to Yuma District Hospital with pneumonia.  While there it was determined that she needed to be transferred to North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.  She was eventually diagnosed with Legionella Pneumonia and ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome) which brought on multiple recurrences of pneumonia and other complications.  She fought back valiantly, refusing to give up, as medical personnel treated her illness and worked to get her into rehabilitation.  Her express desire was to get back home, get a puppy, and play with her great-grandsons.  Pat is survived by her son Michael (Lisa), grandson Jimmy (Emily), great-grandsons Carter and Wesley; step-daughters Roxanne (John), Dawn - granddaughter McKenna;  Traci (Gus) - granddaughters Tarah (Phil) and Paige; brother John (Carol), nephew Scott (Melody), great-nephew Brandon, niece Lisa (Nick), great-nephew Dylan, great-niece Alyssa; and many cousins and friends.  In recent years, Pat's greatest joy was taking every opportunity to spend time with her great-grandsons Carter and Wesley.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Otis.  A graveside service will be held Friday, March 13, 2020 at the Haxtun Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to the Otis Fire Department.
