Robert Hubbard Whitlatch was born May 7, 1940 in Wichita Falls, Texas. In 1954 he moved with his family to Sterling, Colorado where he attended high school, graduating in 1958. Bob was living in Greeley and working for the Union Pacific Railroad in 1961 when he met Katie (Finkner) from Akron, a music education major at Colorado State College. They married September 9, 1962. While Bob was serving in the U.S. Army from 1963 – 1965, he and Katie lived in Alexandria, Virginia and their son, Robert Greg, was born.
Upon discharge from the army, Bob resumed his career with the Union Pacific Railroad in Cheyenne, Wyoming where their daughter, Amy Deanne, was born. In 1979 they moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa and Bob completed his 37 ½ year career with the railroad in management for the Engineering Department in the Omaha, Nebraska office. Bob's life-long hobby was model railroading, and he also enjoyed flying as a private pilot with instrument rating. Together he and Katie enjoyed classical and gospel music, travelling back roads visiting and photographing railroads, old barns and covered bridges, and exploring small towns which reminded them of their cherished roots in Sterling and Akron, Colorado.
Bob's delight was in his walk with his Lord and with his family. In his last weeks he and Katie were blessed to have son Robert Greg, his fiancée Gina, daughter Amy and son-in-law Ken close, and to have the love of four granddaughters and three grandsons. They also count eight little great grandchildren, the newest having been born on March 24, 2010.
After having lived life with high energy, enthusiasm and a wonderful sense of humor, on April 3, 2010 he went to be with his Lord.
