Obituary

Scott Allen Jacobsen began his adventure on October 11, 1962, in Kimball, Nebraska.

As a child, he lived in many towns in Nebraska and Colorado. He even lived in an old school bus (before it was cool).  Scott was always tinkering with something.  He and his brother Kevin souped up their bikes making them into choppers and adding accessories.  That is, until they borrowed parts from mom's bike.  It was this love of working with his hands that led Scott to many jobs.  He dug underground sprinklers with Gambles; worked construction with Ron Kraich and later Ron Jr.; did body shop work with De Kraich; farmed with Don Wahl;  and built and installed custom cabinets with Warren Sampson.

His true passion for truck driving was introduced to him by his mom and stepdad.  He hauled gravel and dirt with Kurt and Rick Jefferson; grain with S&B; beer with Jerry Weber; liquid fertilizer with Kugler; railroad containers with Arelano's; and cattle with Midnight Express.  His favorite was cattle.  I'm not sure if it was the thrill of just skirting the law to get a load delivered on time, or the extra time spent with his brother that made him so happy.  He could often be heard saying "Ain't no feeling like cow mobilein".  He was able to see all 48 continental United States as well as Canada and Alaska doing this job he loved.  Not even a near fatal collision with a train could keep him out of the truck.

Scott began another chapter of his adventure when he became a member of Becky's Daycare.  On Friday afternoons, the kiddos would hear the truck turn the corner and they would line the fence waiting for "Cott" to get out and play with them.  This helped when he was forced to retire from trucking.  Upon his retirement, he became Chief Cook and Bottle Washer as well as Head Baby Rocker.  Most days, Scott could be found sitting in his chair with a lap full of kids watching Gunsmoke and drinking whiskey (Pepsi).

His final adventure was not a good one when at the young age of 57, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.  He took this news with his usual strength.  He continued to play with the daycare kiddos and joked with all of us while struggling to find words to express himself.  He was able to stay at home until the last three weeks of his life.  He passed away peacefully at South Platte Heath and Rehab on May 24, 2024, with Becky by his side.

Those left to carry on the adventures without him are:  His love of 29 years, Becky Routh; sons Derrek Jacobsen and Evann Jacobsen and families; daughter Karissa Cutler and family; sister Joan Keyes and family; brothers Kevin Frink and Teddy Frink and families; sisters-in-law Lesa Halcomb and family; Michelle Roark and family, Lorna Winkler and family; Lonna Locke and family, Tonya Rodwell and family, Shontell Fassler and family, and Danielle Grimes and family; a host of friends and relatives; and most importantly, 72 daycare kiddos.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 31, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Akron Cemetery Gazebo.  Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
